Ultimate Guide to the UPSC CSE Recruitment Process

Union Public Service Commission is one of the prestigious conducting bodies in India. Civil Service Exam (CSE) is a national level exam conducted by UPSC to recruit candidates for various Civil service posts in Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Revenue Service (IRS), etc. The selection process of the UPSC CSE exam is conducted in three phases which are Prelims, Mains, and Interview round.

Cracking UPSC Prelims is not a cakewalk as it is the first and important phase of the exam. Thus, the candidates should pull their socks up and plan a UPSC Prelims Strategy to crack the exam in one attempt. In addition to this, they should understand all the stages of the UPSC recruitment process before moving ahead with the preparation. Familiarity with the complete recruitment process will help in the preparation of the exam strategy and a concrete study plan that needs to be followed during the entire preparation. Application Process:

The first and foremost step of the UPSC Recruitment process is that the eligible candidates are required to fill the application form with the correct information and the required documents along with the fee payment on the official website. Interested and Eligible candidates are required to submit the application form before the last date in order to appear for the exam.

UPSC Prelims Admit Card:

After submitting the UPSC application form, the candidates will become eligible to download the admit card for the prelims exam from the official website. They need to enter the correct login credentials to download the hall ticket and carry the same along with the required documents to the allotted center.

UPSC Prelims Exam:

After downloading the UPSC Prelims Admit Card, the eligible candidates will be required to appear for the UPSC Prelims exam at the allotted center on the specified date. There will be two sections in the prelims exam i.e General Studies I and General Studies II (CSAT) each carrying 200 marks. The time duration for each paper is 2 hours.

UPSC Prelims Result:

The UPSC Prelims Result will be released soon after the completion of the prelims exam. Only the candidates who score more than or equivalent to the UPSC cut-off will be eligible to appear for the next stage of the exam.

UPSC Mains Admit Card:

Only the candidates who have qualified in the prelims exam will be eligible to download the mains admit card from the official website. They are required to enter the correct login credentials to access the hall ticket and carry the same along with the valid documents to the allotted center.

UPSC Mains Exam:

After downloading the UPSC Mains Admit Card, the eligible candidates will be required to appear for the UPSC Mains exam at the allotted center on the specified date. There will be a total of nine descriptive papers. Two papers will be of qualifying nature out of nine papers. The qualifying paper is General English & Language Paper and there are four general studies papers, one essay, and two optional papers.

UPSC Mains Result:

The UPSC Mains Result will be declared a few days after the completion of the mains exam. Only the candidates who score more than or equivalent to the UPSC cut-off will be eligible to appear for the next round of the UPSC Recruitment Process.

UPSC Interview:

After the declaration of the mains result, the candidates who have qualified in the mains exam will be called to appear in the interview round. The Interview/Personality Test carries an overall 275 marks. The final merit list will be prepared based on the performance of the candidates in the Mains and Interview round.
